Congratulations to the CC junior high Spell Bowl team, which finished third statewide in Class 4 and is headed to the state finals for the second year in a row.
The CC spellers correctly spelled 46 words and defeated five other teams at the area competition to take home blue ribbons on Wednesday, November 1, at Benton Central.
Central Catholic was led by eighth-grade twins Lillian and Katelyn Tanney, both of whom had perfect scores and were individual state qualifiers. Eighth-grader Adison Hammel correctly spelled seven of her nine words.
Also competing for CC were Katie Rotar, Cassie Soon, Jabari Kamau, Richard DeCicca, John Lewis, Elizabeth O’Neil, and Lisette Marquez.
The state finals competition will take place November 11 in Loeb Playhouse at Purdue University. This is the fourth time in the past 12 years that a CC junior high Spell Bowl team has reached the state finals.
