7th-grader wins competitive school spelling bee
Congratulations to seventh-grader Sophia Adler, who won the Central Catholic School Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 16, correctly spelling 29 words, including the championship word, senile. The runner-up was seventh-grader Marisol Lefort-Liceaga, who survived 28 rounds.
This was the most competitive school spelling bee in recent years, with three competitors surviving 16 rounds.
Also participating were eighth-graders Andrew Friel, Gavin Boutelle, and Elijah Switzer. All five participants will represent Central Catholic in the Christian Schools Spelling Bee on February 4 at Faith Christian School.
Sophia will also represent CC at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on March 7, also at Faith Christian, competing for a chance to advance to the National Spelling Bee
