SAT School Day: If you would like another opportunity to take the SAT, we will be offering the SAT to seniors on October 13. Follow this link to sign up. The cost is $55. If you believe you qualify for a fee waiver, check out this link to verify. If you do, the cost will be $8. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org if you think your student qualifies. Payment will be billed through FACTS and is due by September 14; any registrations not paid for by this date will not be completed. Keep in mind that scores may or may not be received by application deadlines. You will be able to request your scores be sent to individual colleges after you receive your score.
- Staff from INvestEd https://www.
investedindiana.org/, Purdue’s Division of Financial Aid and Ivy Tech Lafayette’s Financial Aid office will offer a Financial Aid information session in Ivy Tech’s Ivy Hall auditorium on Tuesday October 12, 2021 from 6:30-8pm. This is a general information session only, not Purdue or Ivy Tech specific, and we will not be filing the FAFSA on that evening.
- College Goal Sunday http://www.
collegegoalsunday.org/ will be held on two dates, Sunday November 7, 2021 and on Sunday February 27, 2022. These will also be held locally at Ivy Tech Lafayette from 2-4 pm. Note: Daylight Savings time ends on November 7th. Students/families will be able to file their FAFSA at the College Goal Sunday events. Staff from both Ivy Tech and Purdue will be on hand to assist families.
- 2022-23 FAFSA filing will begin as early as October 1, 2021 at https://studentaid.gov/. The state deadline to receive state funds is April 15, but many schools have an earlier deadline to be eligible for scholarships (Purdue is December 15). Make sure to check your school’s FAFSA deadline. It is best that both the student and one parent request a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) https://studentaid.gov/
fsa-id/create-account/launch prior to filing the FAFSA online. This step saves a lot of time.
College Application Tuesdays: Every Tuesday during 10:10, seniors are working on the college applications. So far, seniors created their Common App accounts, completed information in their Common App tab, and matched their Common App accounts with Naviance. The Common App is one application that a number of schools use; it allows students to enter their information once and apply it to a number of schools. Purdue is a Common App school. Be sure to ask your student to share his/her common application. Parents may need to help with some of the information since it asks for parent education, work, and sibling information. There is a Common App Guide located in the Resources tab to the left in Class of 2022 Schoology group (Resources > Student Services > College Applications). If you have questions, please let us know.
Scholarship Opportunity: The Lafayette Community Foundation scholarship application is due September 14 by 2:00 PM. There is one application portal for all scholarships, including the Lilly Scholarship. Three letters of recommendation are required, so it’s important to start your application ASAP. Check out this link to the application page!
