Elias Zamora among top performers in Christian Schools Spelling Bee!

Elias Zamora among top performers in Christian Schools Spelling Bee!

Congratulations to Elias Zamora, who was the eighth-grade champion in the Greater Lafayette Christian Schools Spelling Bee on Feb. 18 at Faith Christian School. Elias made it to the sixth round of the spelling bee, correctly spelling tropical, jargon, obscure, proprietary, and inclement before misspelling acetone. He won the eighth-grade spell-off by correctly spelling gargantuan. Only two other spellers made it past the sixth round.

Also representing Central Catholic in the spelling bee were eighth-grader Kyle Onken, who made it to the fourth round, and seventh-graders Jeremiah Lewis and Isidore White. Onken, the CC school spelling bee winner, will compete March 5 in Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at Frontier High School.

The future of CC spelling looks bright, as two CC feeder schools – St. Boniface and St. Lawrence – finished first and second, respectively, in team scoring in the Christian Schools Spelling Bell.
