The Central Catholic spelling team finished fifth in the Christian Schools Spelling Bee on Feb. 6 at Faith Christian School.
The team of five eighth-graders was led by Maria Vawter, who lasted nine rounds, and Josh Siemers, who lasted six rounds.
Other students competing for CC were Kate Hutzel, Nathan Hardenburg, and Payton Albregts.
In the next event of the competitive spelling season, school spelling bee champion Nathan Hardenburg will compete in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on March 3 at Frankfort High School for a chance to compete in the national spelling bee.
