Cameron Onken was selected as the winner of the 2016 IHSAA Class 2A Girls Basketball Mental Attitude winner. On behalf of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, the IHSAA Executive Committee, named Cameron Onken of Lafayette Central Catholic High School as the winner of the Class 2A Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award.
Each year the IHSAA Executive Committee selects a senior player who was nominated by her principal and coach and was determined to have best demonstrated mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability. Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, presenting sponsor of the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award in Class 2A Basketball, will donate $1,000 to Lafayette Central High School’s general scholarship fund in the name of Cameron Onken.
A National Honor Society member, Cameron has served as both the Student Body President and Vice-President, is a Student Ambassador, participated in the March for Life in Washington D.C., and also volunteers for the St. John’s Food Pantry. She is ranked third in her graduating class at Lafayette Central Catholic. As an All-State selection last year, she helped lead the Knights to a 1A Basketball State title and was named a McDonald’s All-American nominee for this season. Cameron is also on the 2016 Indiana Girls Basketball All-Star Ballot. Cameron is the daughter of Jeff and Carla Onken of Lafayette. She will attend Villanova University on an athletic scholarship and plans to major in pre-medicine.
This is the second time Cameron has won the IHSAA Mental Attitude award as she was selected in volleyball this fall!
