As you know from past communications, we were planning to welcome your students back to the classroom, either in person or for those who chose it – remotely, beginning August 11. We do still plan to be in school, five days a week, in person or remotely for those students who requested it, however we will be delaying the start of school a week to Tuesday, August 18.
This was not a decision we made lightly. Our team of principals, administrators and select teachers has worked diligently throughout the summer to ensure that our students have the best educational experience we can possibly provide, no matter if they are in the classroom or at home. To do this has required extraordinary effort and required acquisition of additional technology and tools. To provide teachers with adequate time to train and prepare for using this new technology and to design their curriculum to allow for both in person and remote leaning at the same time, we decided that delaying the start of school for a week was the best course of action. The LCSS Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve this calendar change.
We appreciate your patience as we navigate this unprecedented time. We look forward to continuing to serve your students and your families. System and building-level administrators will continue to reevaluate these policies and procedures every three (3) weeks to determine necessary modifications. Any necessary changes will be published in the Executive Director’s Friday Briefing and/or as the situation warrants.
You should have received an email on Wednesday evening that informed you of the school start date change and included an instruction sheet for your student that provided information/directions that will provide access to all of the tools that will be necessary for the coming year whether your student is in class or learning remotely. There was also a link to the individual school plans provided in that sheet. Those can be found here. If you did not receive this email, please notify the email@example.com.
