Meet Our New Teachers & Staff!

St. Lawrence:

Administrative Assistant: Mrs. Debbie Crowe

Mrs. Debbie Crowe attended Indiana State University where she earned her associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She previously worked at Purdue as an Administrative Associate in University Residences. She received several BRAVO awards while at Purdue as well as numerous business certificates related to classes she took at Purdue. Mrs. Crowe is a member of St. Lawrence Parish and is married to Randy Crowe, a CC 1979 alum. Their children – Jennifer and Katy – are also CC alum. Mrs. Crowe enjoys reading, visiting with friends and family, and recently took up sewing. She also loves to spend time with her two grandsons, Paxton and Carson.  

Physical Education Teacher: Mrs. Megan Zehring

Mrs. Megan Zehring earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Purdue University. Mrs. Zehring has volunteered at St. Lawrence in many capacities since 2010 and began to substitute in 2019. She has coached and helped coach t-ball, softball, beginner gymnastics and cheerleading. She is passionate about getting children off their devices and up and moving. This year she hopes to help the students relieve stress and burn a lot of energy during PE while meeting fitness and strength goals. Mrs. Zehring and her husband Steve attend St. Lawrence Church and have three children: Lilli (8th grade at CC), Corinne (6th grade at St. Lawrence), and Wynne (1st grade at St. Lawrence). Outside of St. Lawrence, Mrs. Zehring works at a PR and events firm in Indianapolis. She enjoys walking, hiking with her family, listening to her oldest play guitar, and watching her girls play softball.

 Teacher: Mrs. Erin Funk

Mrs. Erin (Mecklenburg) Funk attended LCSS and is a 2013 graduate from Central Catholic. After high school, Mrs. Funk attended Purdue University and studied Elementary and Special Education where she was on the Dean’s Honors List her sophomore, junior, and senior year. She has previously worked at Battle Ground Elementary & Murdock Elementary. Mrs. Funk and her husband Kevin attend St. Lawrence Church and have two young children: Oliver (2) and Elijah (1). In her free time, Mrs. Funk enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.

St. Boniface:

Teacher: Sr. Mary Bosco Davis

Sr. Mary Bosco Davis earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She has several missionary experiences, including helping at a missionary training program for FOCUS in Florida and helping with a LifeTeen summer camp. Sr. Mary Bosco has also traveled to Germany for the beatification of Mother Maria Theresia, who is the foundress of the local Franciscan order. Sr. Mary Bosco was also able to travel to Philadelphia when Pope Francis visited the United States. In her free time, she enjoys creative writing, playing music on the piano and the violin, walking, and praying before the Eucharist. Her creative writing has also won two first place awards for Gallery of Research, Artistry, and Communication Engagement (GRACE). Sr. Mary Bosco is excited to be in Lafayette and get to know the St. Boniface family.

Teacher’s Aide: Sr. Fiat Staley — STB (Teacher Aide)

Sr. Fiat Staley has attended Catholic schools her entire life. Between her high school and college year, Sr. Fiat did a year of missionary work with a program called National Evangelization Teams (NET) Ministries. During this year, she traveled the country with 10 other young adults putting on Catholic retreats for middle and high school youth. Sr. Fiat then attended Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN and studied Theology and Liberal Arts. While in college, she was able to visit Uganda for an education trip and witness the ministry of the Congregation of Holy Cross in that country. Additionally, Sr. Fiat has taken several pilgrimages including to the Oratory of St. Joseph in Montreal, Canada, and the Marian apparition sites of Lourdes and Medjugorje. Sr. Fiat entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in 2016. Before coming to St. Boniface, she worked with the vocations team for her community as well as in hospitality at her motherhouse. Sr. Fiat enjoys spending time with others, especially her religious Sisters and her family. She also enjoys cooking and exercising, and is looking forward to getting to know the students, teachers, parents, and community.

Administrative Assistant: Hilary Baker

Mrs. Hilary Baker earned her bachelor’s degree in Theology from Xavier University. She has previously worked as a case manager in both mental and community health. Mrs. Baker is originally from Logansport, but moved to Lafayette a few years ago. Mrs. Baker and her husband Jeff attend St. Mary Cathedral Parish, and they have five children: Eliot, Lydia, Will, Joel, and Leo. The family also has a golden retriever named Nora. In her free time, Mrs. Baker enjoys running and reading. 

St. Mary/St. Boniface:

Music Teacher: Debbie Miller

A native of Lafayette, Mrs. Debbie Miller attended Ball State University where she majored in piano and minored in voice, and she earned a bachelor’s in choral/general music for kindergarten-12. Mrs. Miller has taught for 32 years at the Lafayette School Corporation, and she also enjoys teaching private piano and voice lessons. Mrs. Miller and her husband Tim have two grown boys, Devan and Dustin. The Millers also have a 7-month-old puppy named Kirby. Mrs. Miller enjoys spending time with her family and her new puppy. She also enjoys gardening, taking long walks, and traveling. 

Central Catholic:

Junior High Math Teacher: Laura Smith

Born and raised in Montgomery County, Mrs. Laura Smith attended North Montgomery High school, then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. She earned her master’s degree from Western Kentucky University a few years later. Mrs. Smith has many years experience teaching including in Indiana, Wisconsin and Louisiana. Mrs. Smith and her husband have three grown sons, one granddaughter known as the “Cutest Baby in the World”, and a grandson due in October. Mrs. Smith also has two dogs, Nash and Cooper. She is looking forward to the school year with a goal of having fun and learning a lot of math. 

Junior High English Teacher: Weronika Kaczmarczyk

Ms. Kaczmarczyk is originally from northwestern Illinois. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A lifelong Midwesterner, Ms. Kaczmarczyk enjoys taking long walks with her dog, skiing, and reading or playing a board game when the weather ceases to cooperate. Her two favorite activities are traveling and cooking new recipes. She is thrilled to be teaching English 7 this year!

Maternity Leave Coverage/Music Teacher: Tim O’Rourke

Mr. Tim O’Rourke got his start in music as the lead singer in his high school musical. After that initial start, Mr. O’Rourke went on to study Voice, Piano, and Music Composition undergraduate majors at both private and public colleges, and he holds an advanced degree in Vocal Pedagogy from Stephen Austin State University in Texas. He also studied private choral arranging with John Carter and Mary Kay Beall (ASCAP), the editors of Providence Press in Wheaton, IL. Mr. O’Rourke has extensive experience in the music world. He has served as Assistant Music Director for Saint Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Fishers, IN; worked as a church musician at both an Anglican as well as an Evangelical Lutheran and Methodist church; played with the Dana Goot Band at Penrod, an international music festival; directed three show choirs and three concert choirs at Carmel High School with several SCA choreographers from Los Angeles including Damon Brown and Ellie Jordan, taking one of the school’s signature groups to attain their second ever gold rating in the Large Vocal Ensemble adjudication at ISSMA; directed a charter school network choir in addition to the Indianapolis Children’s Choir at the 2012 Annual Mindtrust Event; and premiered the music of Boris Godonov with internationally acclaimed baritone, Jerome Hines. Mr. O’Rourke has also written an original Latin Mass setting, is currently awaiting publication of a sacred keyboard portfolio, and has submitted work for a children’s journal. He entertains privately from Chicago to the Carolinas. In his freetime, Mr. O’Rourke is an avid swimmer as well as an animal lover.  

High School Spanish Teacher: Nicole Talavera Arbonies

Ms. Nicole Talavera Arboniés, was born in Puerto Rico and lived there until she earned her BA in Comparative Literature from the University of Puerto Rico. She then moved to Virginia where she earned her MA in Spanish from the University of Virginia. Ms. Talavera Arboniés is an avid reader, and she also enjoys painting, lettering and calligraphy, baking, and meeting new people.

7th Grade Social Studies Teacher: Braden Vorhees

Mr. Braden Vorhees is a December 2019 graduate of Purdue University, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education. He started working at Central Catholic mid-year last year. While at Purdue, Mr. Vorhees was actively involved with different student organizations on campus, most notably singing with the Varsity Glee Club. He also served as an ambassador for the College of Education where he worked with high school students, providing campus tours and information on our education program at Purdue. Mr. Vorhees loves music, particularly listening to a cappella (Pentatonix, Voctave, Barbershop) and classic rock (The Beatles, Elvis, The Rolling Stones). He can also play the ukulele and the piano, and he enjoys running and participating in half marathons and 5K races across the state. He is eager to get back into the classroom and create a positive, active learning environment for the students as the new school year starts. 

Guidance Office: Lynell Amstutz

Mrs. Lynell Amstutz earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University Southeast. She has worked as a social worker for a provider and for the Indiana Department of Child Services for six years. Through working for the Department of Child Services, she felt called to become a school counselor, and she obtained her master’s degree in School Counseling from Indiana University Southeast and has worked as an instructional assistant for two years at a middle school. Mrs. Amstutz and her husband Scott have an 11 month old daughter named Genevieve. In her free time, she loves to paint and bake as well as going to Harvest Homecoming, which is a large festival that takes place in her hometown of New Albany, IN every year. Mrs. Amstutz is excited to be a new school counselor for Central Catholic.
