Seventeen seventh- and eighth-graders competed on Tuesday, April 6, in a dual meet with West Lafayette in the first competition of the junior high Academic Super Bowl season.
Central Catholic teams won in the Math, Science, and Interdisciplinary rounds and competed well in English and Social Studies.
Instead of hosting an invitational, as it has in the recent years, CC hosted the in-person dual meet in Eberle Gym in light of COVID-19 social distancing concerns. The event gave students a chance to compete before the May 3 area competition, which will be held virtually.
The team was especially strong in Science, where both the A and B teams correctly answered 21 of 25 questions.
Students participating in the dual meet were Sophia Adler, Craig Cahoon, Erin Cahoon, Will Fabian, Jackie Hall, Ayana Haro, Kaitlyn Kuckkan, Bridget O’Gara, Jacob Ramey, Maggie Schnerre, Dominic Schweiss, John Schweiss, Connor Soon, Ethan Stephens, Vincent Telenko, Bliss Ulery, and Noah Weeks.
The team is coached by Tricia VanSlyke (Science), Macy Duncan (Social Studies), Laura Smith (Math), and Joe Gerrety (English).
