Daily updates related to a variety of topics will be provided each day in the 4:00 O’clock announcements for your child’s school. These will be posted on our website via the parent portal as usual. We will continue to provide this to keep your school community informed with updated information related to cancellations, updates, news and relevant information. Additionally, we will be sharing some of these stories on social media. These will also be accessible through the Director’s Spotlight link found on our website here. Finally, Eric Davis, LCSS Executive Director, will be providing a Friday wrap-up that will also be located at this link, and may also send regular emails to families throughout each week. We will try to make those emails available through this link as well in case you miss them. If you have suggestions on how we can better communicate with you and our community please send those to social@lcss.org

On Tuesday, teachers participated in the first ever LCSS E-Learning Virtual Conference. The conference was held in part because teachers felt uncomfortable leading faceless classrooms. To combat the isolation inherent to distant learning, teachers learned how to use Google Hangouts. Below is what you’ll need to know.

  • Hangouts may be used by your child’s teacher to provide LIVE instruction, LIVE support, or just create an opportunity for teachers and students to engage with each other.
  • Students entering a Hangout will need to follow proper Hangout etiquette
    • Prior to entering students are asked to:
      • Mute their mic.
      • Turn on their camera
    • Students are asked to remain muted until the teacher calls on them.
    • Students that have questions while the teacher is leading instruction or interacting with one of their peers are invited to enter that question in the chat box. Teachers will address chatbox questions periodically throughout the Hangout.
  • To avoid interference, if two students are in the same room only one student can have their microphone and volume on.

If you are uncomfortable with your son or daughter attending a LIVE Hangout session, all Hangouts that contain critical academic information will be posted to the teacher’s Schoology (Central Catholic) page or Google Doc located on the school’s website (elementary).
