This year the Academic Super Bowl theme was the Fertile Crescent. This took students to the ancient worlds of Egypt, Samaria, and the Middle East. Studying the literature, art, music, science, mathematics and history of the area made for a rich educational experience. In addition, several of the team members traveled to the Oriental Institute in Chicago for an in-depth field trip concentrating on the culture, art and history. After participating in two invitational tournaments, Central Catholic competed at their Area Competition on April 16th at Attica High School. The students had a very successful night, taking home first place in English and Science and second place in Social Studies. The Math, Fine Arts, and interdisciplinary teams all took home third place ribbons. Once all of the scores were tabulated across the State of Indiana, Central Catholic received some additional good news. Out of the sixty-two schools competing in their class, Central Catholic placed 10th in Science, 14th in Social Studies, and 19th in English. Overall it was a very successful season and coaches, Tabitha Bellman, Katie Canarecci, Elena Fine, Matthew Newkirk, and Patrick O’Keefe are looking forward to next year’s topic – The Roaring Twenties.
