The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education. – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Regions is once again proudly sponsoring our Riding Forward Black History Month essay contestwhich launched yesterday, January 15, in celebration of the Dr. King holiday. This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Riding Forward contest, a campaign which has awarded more than $750,000 in scholarship funds to high school and college students throughout the bank’s 15-state footprint since its inception.
This year’s Riding Forward theme is “I am a Living Legend.” Applicants are encouraged to write a 500-word or less essay devoted to:
1. Addressing how an African-American has been an inspiration in your life, and
2. Discussing the contributions of the African-American individual who has served to inspire and motivate you.
One high school senior/pending college freshman from each state in Regions’ 15-state footprint will receive a $5,000 scholarship. One college freshman, sophomore or junior from each state will receive a $3,500 scholarship.
This means we are certain to have two Indiana scholarship recipients!
We are reaching out to our school and not-for-profit partners throughout our Area to share the Riding Forward contest as an opportunity to Create Shared Value. We encourage you to please do the same where you have personal connections.
