Congratulations to the junior high Spell Bowl team which competed well in the state finals Saturday (Nov. 12) at Purdue University.

The Knights finished 16th statewide, competing against 29 other schools from all four enrollment classifications.

The top speller for the Knights in the state finals was seventh-grader Nicole Martinez, who correctly spelled eight of her nine words. Also competing for the Knights were Katelyn Tanney, Lillian Tanney, Nicholas Props, Samantha Haro, Carson Gray, Sadie Prothero, and Jace Rogers.

Other team members are Sarah Switzer, Lilikoi Bannon, Christian Silva, Richard DeCicca, Maggie Friel, and Abigail McCaw.

This is the third time since 2017 that a CC junior high Spell Bowl team has qualified for the state finals.

The team is coached by Joe Gerrety and Rachel Stewart. Special thanks to team parent Erica Gray, who assisted during the state finals.
