Sophomores and juniors have been working in Naviance over the past two weeks to update their resumes. It has been great to see how many wonderful activities, work experiences, awards and accomplishments the students were able to add to their resumes since last spring! Please take the time to check out how your child’s resume is coming along and give them feedback!
In addition to updating their resumes, the Junior class also worked through a few of the college search tools. The overall goal was for students to search for colleges based on their own criteria (major, size of school, location, athletics, activities, etc.). Once criteria was set and college lists were explored, we asked students to “favorite” two colleges they had not previously considered. Far too often, students decide on a school for reasons other than those that may truly fit their personality and interests. For this reason, we are encouraging students to explore, ask questions and learn about scholarships and opportunities at several colleges before making a decision about their post-secondary education. The opportunity to visit college campuses is critical to selecting a school that is the best fit. Since students are allocated two college visit days their Junior year (excused), we also encouraged them to schedule their visits this school year. Many schools offer weekend visits, so this may lend itself to a nice family weekend away this year. We also have four days off school coming up – this would be a great opportunity to schedule a college visit or two!
