Next Wednesday, May 11 Kathy Nimmer will visit Central Catholic to talk to our students during 10:10.
Kathy Nimmer is an award-winning teacher, author and motivational speaker who has been teaching at Harrison High School in the Tippecanoe School Corporation since 1992. She is the 2015 Indiana Teacher of the Year and a finalist for the 2015 National Teacher of the Year. Nimmer received the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest civilian honor in Indiana, and was named a “2015 Woman of Distinction” by YWCA Greater Lafayette. The national board-certified teacher is also a recipient of the Lilly Distinguished Fellowship, giving her the opportunity to fulfill the lifelong dream of writing/editing an anthology about assistance dogs: “Two Plus Four Equals One.” Nimmer is a frequent public speaker at local, state and national events. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Trinity Christian College (1991) and a master’s degree in English from Purdue University (1992).
Nimmer is spending the current school year traveling the state to speak with government and community leaders about the importance of education, as well as inspire fellow educators and students to pursue their dreams.
Kathy does not accept speaking fees, but appreciates donations to Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides guide dogs to people with vision loss, as well as service dogs for children with autism. They are passionate about connecting exceptional dogs with individuals and families for greater independence.
All money collected will be donated to Guiding Eyes for the Blind!
