Congratulations to the Central Catholic junior high spelling team, which tied for fourth in the annual Christian Schools Spelling Bee on Feb. 7 at Faith Christian. The team was led by Maria Vawter, who was the seventh-grade champion at the competition.
Other members of the team were seventh-graders Nathan Hardenburg and Abigail Alexander and eighth-graders Jeremiah Lewis and Gray Weeks.
Maria Vawter will represent CC again at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on March 4 at Benton Central, competing for a chance to advance to the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C.
The Lafayette Catholic Schools took three of the top four places at the competition, with St. Lawrence finishing second and St. Boniface taking third.
