Dear Parents and Friends,
WE NEED YOUR VOICE!
January is the beginning of the legislative session in Indiana, and as members of the Catholic school community, we are called upon to exercise our civic responsibilities. This is fundamental to our Faith and part of the Catholic social teachings. These social teachings can help inform our conscience, civil discourse, and legislative and economic advocacy. For a brief overview of Catholic social teachings, there are many good resources online. To see an example click here.
As a school community, we are particularly interested in legislative and educational policies that relate to our schools or have the potential to affect our Catholic identity. This year we expect several possible bills that have the potential to affect our Catholic identity and the ability for low and middle-income families to choose our Catholic schools. To help our community stay better informed on these issues and to advocate as a larger voice, we work closely with the Indiana Non-Public Education Association (INPEA) and the Indiana Catholic Conference.
We also feel it is important to have a local voice and as such have helped form the Greater Lafayette Partners for Student Success in cooperation with Faith Christian, Lafayette Christian, and St. James Lutheran. The GLP_SS is a committed group of school administrators, teachers, parents, and community members interested in fostering the growth of our community’s future servant leaders by promoting four core values: Parents as the Primary Educators; Education of the Whole Person; Educational Choice; and Servant Leadership.
