Service Learning Program 2016-17 – START NOW!

Justice & Service Learning Program 2016-2017 at Central Catholic Jr./Sr. High School

April 30 – all service must be submitted by April 30, 2017…BUT DON’T WAIT. SupervisorVerificationForm for ServiceLearningProgram

Service hours are divided into two general types: those which call us to actively participate in the communities to which we belong (Type C) and those which call us to live out the commandment to “love one another” (Types A & B).

Type A – hours of service working directly with the poor, disadvantaged, hungry, homeless, sick, elderly or disabled

Type B – indirect hours of service benefiting (but not necessarily with) the poor, disadvantaged, hungry, homeless, sick, elderly or disabled

Type C – hours of service benefiting a community that you are a part of including Family, Church, and School

The Guidelines…

  • In order to count for the 2016-2017 school year, the service must be completed between May 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017 and submitted with the proper documentation no later than April 30. Late hours will result in the deduction of the student’s Theology second semester grade. Ten percent will be deducted for each day the hours are not submitted after April 30 (for up to three days).
  • Service documentation must be submitted using the Supervisor Verification Form for Service Learning Program.
  • Students may not volunteer for relatives to fulfill Type A & B service requirements with the exception of extraordinary circumstances and only with the prior approval of the Director of Campus Ministry.
  • Students are encouraged to have their service activity approved by their Theology teacher prior to volunteering to ensure that the activity qualifies for service learning. A plan will be created with the help of parents/guardians and Theology teacher.
  • Whenever possible, service opportunities will be provided throughout the school year. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of each student to schedule his or her own service.
  • Parents should be involved! Please consider serving along-side of your child. This teaches the child that service does not end when service hours end! 🙂
