It’s almost October…Respect Life Month
There are many ways that we, as Christians, can be PRO-LIFE! We are called to be pro-life in everything we say and do! During 10:10 this month we will explore ways that we can respect life right here at CC. We will learn about bullying and how to prevent it and protect ourselves and others from it. Additionally, we will explore what it means to be a true friend. As a school, students (and their families) will be invited to participate in activities that advocate for, support and protect life at its very beginning and most vulnerable. Here are some ways you and your family can get involved: 40 Days for Life, Life Chain, Matrix Shoe Drive, Right to Life Banquet, a simple daily prayer…
40 Days for Life – Everyday (7AM-6PM) Now through November 1
Location: Planned Parenthood, 964 Mezzanine Dr, Lafayette, IN 47905
A great way for families to serve together through prayer and advocacy! (Type A Service Hours)
40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program:
- Prayer and fasting
- Constant vigil
- Community outreach
Life Chain – Sunday, October 4, 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Location: Starting at the Courthouse and goes West on State Street (Hwy 26) to Purdue Campus.
A great way for families to serve together through prayer and advocacy! (Type B Service Hours)
Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful gathering where we stand silently in prayer. We have signs that we hold. The signs say different things: “Abortion hurts women,” “Abortion kills children,” “Jesus forgives and heals,” “Lord, forgive us and our nation.” On the back of the signs there are scripture verses, songs, and suggestions for prayer. This is an event where we are gathered as a group, yet individually we are praying for our nation, for the unborn, and for those who find themselves in a position where they don’t know what to do. There is no shouting, no pacing/picketing, or loud protesting. Signs will be provided, please DO NOT bring your own signs.
Along with your family, join your parish group OR meet the Held family on the sidewalk near the skating rink at Tapawingo park. The area that Tippecanoe County Right To Life would like to have CC students “cover” is the sidewalk from the west end of the bridge to Tapawingo Drive. Please plan to arrive before 2:30 and stay to 3:30.
Matrix PRC Shoe Drive – Now through October 22
A great way to clean out your closets! 🙂 Ben & Allison Tharp are leading up the effort at CC!
Help Matrix fill 100 bags of shoes with 25 pairs in each bag! All shoe types and sizes. GENTLY USED PAIRS!
It’s a win-win for Matrix and people around the world. Matrix receives funds for per pound of shoes collected! On average one shoe drive will provide over $1,000 to Matrix! The shoes that we would otherwise put in the landfill, sell at our garage sales, or simply hand down to dear friends or family…can create huge impact to Matrix and to impoverished nations. These shoes will be shipped to impoverished nations such as: Haiti, Ghana, Togo, Honduras, Swaziland, Guatemala, Bolivia, Tanzania, Botswana, Benin, Zambia, and Senegal. The shoes are being sent to people who go through a free training program on how to run their own small business selling shoes. They are then given a FREE supply of shoes to get their business going.
Right to Life Banquet – October 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Location: Purdue Memorial Union
As a family, enjoy dinner and listen to the incredibly moving story of Emmy-award winning guest speaker Ryan Bomberger, co-founder of The Radiance Foundation, whose biological mother was raped but chose life for him, allowing him to grow up in a loving, multi-racial adoptive family of fifteen.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of life.
Help us to cherish and protect this gift, even in the midst of fear, pain and suffering.
Give us love for all people, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth living.
Grant us the humility to accept help when we are in need and teach us to be merciful to all.
Through our words and actions may others encounter the outstretched hands of your mercy.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
