…but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” – Isaiah 40:31
Wait for the Lord. In our time it is hard to wait, yet so much of prayer is waiting. In this passage from Isaiah, we are promised strength if we wait. We shall be lifted up, we will be re-energized. Praying with and for youth is sharing in this promise from God. If you come aside with time and wait, I will be with you, and I will lift you up.
Young people’s lives, like adult lives, are filled with stress and distractions. Many voices shout to our young people to go this way or that way and find peace and security that they are looking for here and there. As adults who are privileged to journey with these young people, we invite them to prayer and we create an environment that calls to prayer. Most of all we get out of the way of the Holy Spirit, and we help youth to learn to get out of the way so that the power of prayer becomes unleashed in our lives, in their lives and in our world.
It is my absolute privilege to be called to journey with the young people of Central Catholic Jr./ Sr. High School. In the few short weeks that I have been walking with them, their faithfulness and enthusiasm for their faith and prayer has given me strength.
Renew your commitment to pray for and with the young people at CC and the young people of the world. Set an alarm or write yourself a reminder and forward it to your friends! At 9:01 p.m. (or 9:01 a.m. … or really anytime) say a prayer, this prayer or any prayer, for our kids. God bless you!
CC Prayer 901
O God of peace and fortitude, as darkness overtakes the light of day protect all your beloved ones, especially these young people who seek to do your will.
When they are tempted, make them steadfast. When they have questions, give them wisdom. When they are fearful, give them prudence. Strengthen them at all times in chastity, temperance, and hope. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Father of mercy, listen with a tender heart to the prayers of your daughters. As we go now in peace, chase away the darkness in our minds and enfold us in your gentle care. Preserve us in grace and keep us from sin. With the Blessed Virgin as our guide, give us strength for purity and charity, that we might say “yes” only to your will. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Father of wisdom, hear the prayers of your sons. As we go now in peace, preserve us from the power of darkness and fortify us with chastity and kindness. Give us courage to choose your will. With Saint Joseph as our example, send an angel of light upon our dreams, that we might accept the mystery of your divine plan. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
