Junior High Spell Bowl team takes second
Congratulations to the Central Catholic junior high Spell Bowl team, which finished second in Class 4 and third overall in its 10-team region competition Nov. 1 at Seeger Memorial Jr.-Sr. High School. The team’s score placed CC 11th among 41 teams statewide in Class 4.
The Knights were led by eighth-grader Sam Seaburg, who correctly spelled 7 of his 9 words in the final round.
Other members of the CC top 8 spellers who competed at Seeger: A.J. Bordenet, Samuel Siemers, Matt Mazur, Josh Siemers, Maria Vawter, Audrey Cleveland, and Nathan Hardenburg.
Attending the competition as alternates were Jeremiah Lewis, Mark Cramer, and Joey Stair. Other team members are Owen Adler, Beni Gutierrez, Carson Risch, and Vivian Switzer. The team is coached by Mr. Joe Gerrety.
The next junior high academic competition is the school spelling bee scheduled for late January. The winner of the school spelling bee will represent CC in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee with a chance to compete in the national spelling bee in Washington D.C.
