As good as we are, we can always get better. This quote is the basic rationale behind professional development frequently used by Barbara Pedersen, president of C.L.A.S.S., Inc.
Professional Development is never ending, no matter what your profession or career choice. Here at Central Catholic, our teachers continually change and adapt to new expectations and proven strategies to improve student learning.
Our staff attended INPEC (Indiana Non-Public Education Conference) on Thursday, October 23, 2014. This two day conference, held in Indianapolis, focused on various topics including: Instructional Practice and Assessment, Leadership, School Culture and Student Support, Faith in Learning, Special Education, and Technology/21st Century Learning. The general session speaker on Thursday was Alan November, an internationally recognized leader in education technology. He is the founder and senior partner ofNovember Learning. Alan is truly a visionary, teaching and demonstrating to educators what a digital classroom and world can offer students. I was fortunate enough to attend his summer institute in Boston, Massachusetts a few years ago. As the teachers and students of Central Catholic continue to learn and develop through the 1:1 initiative, Mr. November’s words affirmed what we are currently doing and what we still need to do. Last month, Central Catholic also applied for Title II-A funds. These dollars are marked solely for professional development to address identified needs of the school. Student achievement, learner engagement, and preparing students for tomorrow’s workplace are areas we continue to evaluate as a staff.
